The low-income share program is a partnership between CSA farms and Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE). It provides subsidized CSA shares to low income families and offers a free cooking and nutrition class (through CCE) based on the weekly CSA share to participants. The class focuses on vegetables that are in the share that week – everyone has loved cooking and eating together, sharing recipes and stories!
2014 will be the ninth year of the program, which now includes 9 local CSA’s and provides a 50% subsidy for over 120 CSA shares in Tompkins County. Funding is provided by a combination of grants secured by CCE, fund raising by the farms, and generous gifts from CSA members.
