Washing Yellow Squash for our CSA

Our CSA program is headed into August this week – hard to believe, August already!  It always surprises us that the end of August is just the half-way point for the CSA boxes, theres a ton of bounty to come.

We are still accepting CSA shares for this season, and shares are prorated so folks only pay for the weeks they use.   If you know someone considering joining now is a great time to do so, after August 10th the weekly share prices will go up a bit.  There’s links to the pick-up sites, and share options at the bottom of this page.

This coming week we are finally going to start digging Carrots, pretty exciting!  Also we’ll probably sneak some hot peppers into the shares Hungarian Hot Wax and Jalapenos are likely candidates. Lettuce may be back – I’d say better than a 50% chance, and Dill and Cilantro are possibles for herbs.  Eggplants have been in the Thursday boxes but not Tuesday – so this week we’ll try and flip that.  Another week or so and we’ll start picking Green Peppers more heavily, and the Tomatoes should start really rolling in about then too, but it’s possible both of those could end up in the boxes this week too.

Here’s the CSA Forecast List:

Likely
Cabbage
Fennel
Cucumbers
Summer Squash and Zucchini
Onion – probably those large sweet onions we promised you last week!
Beets – we have a beet survey for you to take – would make Dwight Schrut very proud!  Look for a link in your CSA email
and don’t forget Carrots!

Possible
Lettuce – better than 50%
Kale
Dill
Cilantro
Basil
Tomato
Eggplant
Green Peppers
Hot Peppers

Happy Eating!
