Premium Share Week 10

Week 10: August 12th – August 16th

Basic Share Box:  LettuceSummer Squash,  Tomatoes, Bell Peppers, Swiss Chard, Hot Peppers, Carrots, Cucumbers, Cilantro

This week’s share includes more tomatoes! We started off with a smaller amount in the boxes, but this week there will be a larger portion and two of our big green bell peppers (a great pairing!). Summer is rolling right along and we’re starting to see some awesome crops in the field. Carrots are back, and the first hot peppers are going into the CSA Shares. We typically include a small amount of hot peppers when we have them, if you don’t like spicy you can pass them on to a friend!  Our cucumbers are winding down, but we were able to include one in each share which is enough for a small batch of cucumber salad or the cilantro tzatziki sauce.  This is an off week for onions, so if you have any leftover spring onions they’ll be good in taco salad. We’ll have some of our larger yellow onions in the coming week.

Prep Tips

Planning ahead can make meals easy during the week. If you have time grab kitchen partner and do a little chopping ahead of time. During the week pull out your prepped items and our recipes are even easier. This week’s share includes a lot of meals like salads that are best prepped just before eating, but there are still a few things that can be done ahead for easing prep time.

Salad. The lettuce can be washed and torn into bite-sized pieces a day or two in advance. Wrap a paper towel over the top to soak up any excess moisture. Black beans or Ground Beef can be made up to 3days in advance. Warm up or serve chilled with the salad.

Carrot Fritters.  Grate the carrots a day or two in advance and this is a quick weeknight meal.

Tzatziki. While you won’t want to prepare the tzatziki too far in advance, you can prep a protein for a quick weeknight meal. Try grilled chicken, bean salad, or marinated and grilled tofu.
